Shah Rukh Khan’s wit and humour are truly unmatched, and the audience got a taste of it at the recently held IIFA Awards 2024. The actor took on hosting duties for the award night alongside his close friend and filmmaker Karan Johar. As the duo engaged in some fun banter on stage, the audience just couldn’t hold back their laughter and cheer them on.

As Shah Rukh welcomed Karan on stage and introduced him as “one of the biggest directors India has ever produced,” Karan made his entrance and hugged King Khan. Seizing the moment, Shah Rukh humorously quipped, “Publicly itna pyar mat kar, log baatein karenge” (Don’t show so much love publicly, people will start talking), sending the audience into fits of laughter.

Since it had been a decade since Shah Rukh last hosted IIFA, Karan jokingly asked him for feedback on how he had managed the hosting duties in SRK’s absence. In his usual humorous style, Shah Rukh replied, “You handled the hosting just like a watchman takes care of a lavish building when the owner is away.”

During the conversation, Shah Rukh Khan brought up how legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Chhetri, and Roger Federer know the right time to step down. Director Karan Johar then playfully asked SRK why he doesn’t consider retiring since he’s also a legend. Shah Rukh responded with a witty remark, saying, “Iss mamle mein main Dhoni jaisa hoon, hum na na karke bhi 10 IPL khel jaate hain.” (Me and Dhoni are different kinds of legends, we play 10 IPL even after saying no several times).”

Co-host Vicky Kaushal, who was also on stage with them, ended the conversation with an apt one-liner. He said, “Retirement is for legends, but Kings are eternal.”

Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s King where he will be sharing screen space with Suhana Khan.
