On Sunday evening, fans felt a lot more than just kuch kuch. At a special screening to mark 25 years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the team of the film headlined by superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and filmmaker Karan Johar surprised fans by attending the event.
The film was screened in a cinema hall in Mumbai’s Andheri, which was packed with fans hooting, clapping and dancing. Once the screening of the film was over, the real party began as Shah Rukh, Rani and Karan walked in.
“My dear friend Rani is here. She was a little baby when we started. The first scene we did was the passing away scene in the hospital. She was so wonderful and is one of my favourite actors of all times. I have said this befoire, but very few of us get the opportunity, via the audience, which would be you, your parents, your elder brothers and sisters, who saw the film so many years ago.
“I am extremely grateful to Mr Yash Chopra, Yash Johar and their two sons who became my friends, Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar. If it wasn’t for these four people I would not have become the star I am. So I am very touched when a film like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai stands the test of time,” Shah Rukh said while interacting with fans.
In one of the videos which has emerged from the screening, Shah Rukh is seen thanking the entire cast and crew of the film when a fan reminds him that he has missed mentioning Salman Khan, who was seen in a special appearance in the film.
“Woh interval ke baad aayega, my speech till that point isn’t over yet! I am mentioning in the order of appearance. In facty I will mention Rani when she returns as a ghost!” he countered in his trademark wit.
Fans remind SRK to mention Salman’s name. Srk arrived at the kkhh screening today at Andheri theatre.

Rani said she was 17-year-old when she did the film and mentioned that this December her daughter will turn eight. “So just like Sana in the film, even I have to give my daughter some lettrs I am sure,” Rani joked.
The actor said she owes her career to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Tina, a character which several actresses of the time had famously turned down. “I am standing here with two most important people of my career and life. Shah Rukh literally taught me how to romance on screen. Shah Rukh for me is romance itself, he is love. I have loved Shah Rukh since the first time I saw him. He is the most gracious man.
“And the magic of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai lies in the writing of Karan Johar. I never understood why others said no because Tina is a great role. It is a role because of which I am standing here today, the star that I am today is because of Tina and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” she added.
At the screening, Karan Johar said he could make the film only because of Aditya Chopra and Shah Rukh, whose name he said should be rechristened post Jawan. “I remember the day Jawan released, I was like, ‘Now we are done with the King, he is officially the emperor.'”
“If it wasn’t for Adi and Shah Rukh, I wouldn’t have been here. I can’t believe we are here in a packed hall watching this film 25 years later. It is this love that all of us live by and it is what gives us the oxygen to move on. As far as Shah Rukh goes, he is the eternal Jawan. He can play love stories forever, he in fact created love in Hindi cinema. There is no better contributor to love and romance than him,” Karan added.
