Paparazzo Manav Manglani, who operates a 20-member team with footprints across various cities in the country, spoke about his experiencing photographing celebrities. He said that waiting is a very common occurrence in the business, and recalled waiting for 12 hours once, when Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were said to be reuniting a decade after their highly-publicised fall-out. Manav also addressed Shah Rukh’s reluctance to pose for photographers, especially in recent years.
Appearing on the Aleena Dissects YouTube channel, Manav was asked about Shah Rukh’s refusal to pose for photos in public. He said, “If he’s not in the right frame of mind, he doesn’t pose for a photo. Especially in Mumbai, he doesn’t pose. He occasionally poses when he’s not in Mumbai. He doesn’t seem to mind being photographed at the airport, especially if he’s ready. He doesn’t pose, but we get him walking, and that’s enough. He’s never ready whenever he’s flying from the private airport.”
Manav Manglani also noted that it was Shah Rukh Khan who ‘started the umbrella trend’. The actor became more elusive after the arrest of his son Aryan Khan in connection with a drugs-related case in 2021. Subsequently, he refused to be seen in public, travelling behind black curtains and shielding himself with umbrellas. Shah Rukh also didn’t promote his films Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki via traditional means.
Manav also recalled how critical it was for the entire paparazzi community to photograph Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s reunion. He said, “When you have to do a breaking story, you have to wait. You don’t know when that celebrity will make a move. We’ve waited up to 12 hours on occasions. We once waited 12 hours for a Shah Rukh-Salman photo. It was the first time they were spotted together in a decade. He went in at around 10 pm, and we waited till around 6 am. They came out and Salman was like, ‘The media’s here, let’s pose for a picture’. That was important also, because they hadn’t been seen together since they fought at Olive. That was a big breaking story, it went viral across the globe.”
