Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan shared screen space for the first time in Rakesh Roshan’s 1995 film Karan Arjun. The actors were yet to become superstars and got along like a house on fire, but pretended to hate each other just to mess with those around them. In a recent interview, actor Johny Lever, who was also a part of the cast, recalled an incident when Salman pulled out a gun to shoot Shah Rukh, and the everyone around them just froze.

In a chat with Galatta India, Johny shared that they were shooting in Jaipur for the film and every day, Salman would pull Shah Rukh’s leg over something. He shared that they were extremely worried that Shah Rukh might get offended and things could escalate between the two. “All the other people, including me, got a little worried that Shah Rukh might take these things to heart,” he said.

Every night, after the shoot, the unit would party together and at one such party, an argument broke out between Shah Rukh and Salman. “Suddenly Salman pulled out a gun, and all of us heard a gunshot, and then we saw Shah Rukh fall on the ground,” he recalled. Johny said that everyone present gasped loudly and soon, Shah Rukh got up and they started laughing. Veteran writer Honey Irani, who was also present, could not believe what she saw. “Shah Rukh got up and both of them just started laughing,” he shared.

Both Shah Rukh and Salman have addressed their behaviour during the filming of Karan Arjun. Salman talked about this particular prank on Aap Ki Adaalat and explained how he procured a fake gun from the prop department. “I told Shah Rukh, I’ll call you for dance, you refuse, and then we will engage in a scuffle, and here’s a blank gun. I will fire a shot at you and you will fall down. Shah Rukh said he was not in a mood, he was tired,” he recalled and added, “My brother Sohail was there. I pulled Shah Rukh’s hand, and he snatched away his hand. He pushed me, and I also pushed him, a scuffle ensued, I took out the gun and fired a shot at him. Shah Rukh did a somersault and fell down.”

Shah Rukh apologised for his behaviour in an episode of The Roshans and admitted that Salman and him pestered Rakesh Roshan during the shoot. “Pinkie ji scolded me a lot. ‘You are troubling Guddu (Rakesh) a lot, I did not expect this from you, because between Salman and me, I was slightly better; at least on the face of it. We were two young kids who were troubling a father figure to be very honest,” he recalled.
