Salman Khan is gearing up for the highly anticipated release of his upcoming film Sikandar on Eid. The makers unveiled the film’s trailer on Sunday in the presence of Salman Khan, along with co-stars Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, and others. During the trailer launch, Salman made a bold statement about the film’s box office potential, confidently declaring that it would easily cross Rs 200 crore.
Salman has released numerous films on Eid, making it almost a ritual for the superstar to have a festival release. Though he didn’t release a film on Eid last year, he is making a comeback with Sikandar this time. Speaking at the trailer launch, the actor addressed the longstanding association of his films with the festival and made a striking claim about Sikandar’s box office prospects. He asserted that the film would mint Rs 200 crore regardless of whether it is well-received or not.
He said, “Eid, Diwali, New Year, festive, non-festive, it’s the love of the people and picture acchi ho ya buri ho, wo sau (Rs 100 crore) toh paar kara hi dete hain (Whether film is good or bad, it will atleast mint Rs 100 crore). Salman corrected himself and said Rs 200 crore, “Rs 100 crore bohot pehle ki baat hain (Rs 100 crore is a thing of the past).”
While fans are excited for Sikandar, Salman’s recent box office track record has been inconsistent. His last release, Tiger 3 (2023), was expected to break multiple box office records. However, it managed to collect Rs 282.79 crore in India, with a worldwide total of Rs 464 crore. Though these numbers seem impressive at first glance, the film’s return on investment was lower due to its estimated budget of Rs 300 crore.
Similarly, Salman’s other 2023 release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, proved to be a box office disappointment. The film’s worldwide collection stood at Rs 184.6 crore, failing to even cross the Rs 200 crore mark.
Before Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Salman made a memorable cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Pathaan, which amassed a staggering Rs 1055 crore worldwide. However, his previous lead roles in Antim (2021) and Radhe (2021) failed to leave a significant impact. While Radhe could only collect Rs 18.33 crore globally, Antim managed Rs 58.5 crore.
With Sikandar, Salman is looking to reclaim his box office dominance. Whether the film lives up to his bold prediction remains to be seen.
