Salaar vs Dunki advance box office: Prabhas’ action-thriller increases lead over Shah Rukh Khan’s comedy drama

Salaar vs Dunki advance box office: Prabhas' action-thriller is dominating the mass belts and single screens, but Shah Rukh Khan's comedy-drama is the first choice in the north.

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki was finally released in theatres on December 21. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dunki minted Rs 15.41 crore in advance sales, having sold over two lakh tickets at the national multiplex chains, PVR-INOX and Cinepolis. Dunki s expected to earn between Rs 38 crore and Rs 40 crore on opening day.

It was also reported that Rs 29.35 crore worth of tickets have been sold for Prabhas’ movie Salaar, set to release in theaters on Friday. More than 14 lakh tickets have been sold in India for the Friday release of Salaar, across 10,434 shows. The Telugu version alone has collected Rs 23.50 crore in advance bookings.

Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan took to his X handle and wrote about the ‘unfair screen sharing’ between the two films. He said, “Pan India Star #Prabhas’ #Salaar unlikely to release in PVR INOX due to unfair screen sharing with #ShahRukhKhan’s #Dunki. “The makers have withdrawn the release of Salaar from the multiplex chains in the South Indian Markets. They won’t be releasing Salaar in any of their properties in the South Market.” “Hombale team is planning to take stern action against Ajay Bijli & PVR-Inox in the time to come as the decision has been made by him.”

Helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani among others. The film was released in the Hindi language.  Salaar will be released in four languages –Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The film is helmed by Prashanth Neel.

Dunki is Shah Rukh’s third film this year. The actor was previously seen in Atlee’s Jawan and Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan. Each of those films minted more than Rs 1000 crore worldwide. Prabhas hasn’t had much luck in his post-Baahubali career, with Saaho, Radhe Shyam, and Adipurush, all struggling at the box office. It’s been a streak of high-profile flops for him.
