Almost a year after announcing Ramayana, the makers of the Ranbir Kapoor-Yash-Sai Pallavi-starrer have shared a poster of the film with official release dates. The film’s producer, Namit Malhotra, took to his X handle, to share the details, confirming the film will release in two parts.
In a series of post on X handle, Namit wrote, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen.” “And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our “RAMAYANA”– for people across the world”, he wrote in another post.
He added, “Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence… Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027. From our entire Ramayana Family.”
The poster or the post, however, didn’t have any mention of the film’s cast. The poster just mentioned the years of releases and the film’s director’s name–Nitesh Tiwari.”
Previously, several pictures from the sets of Ramayana had surfaced online. In one of the pictures, Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallvai could be seen dressed as Ram and Sita. Yash, meanwhile, has confirmed that he is playing Ravan. In other pictures, Arun Govil and Lara Dutta could be seen dressed in regal outfits. They are reportedly playing the roles of of Raja Dashrat and Rani Kaykay.
A few days ago, India Today reported that the makers are set to develop a trilogy around the epic drama. A source told the media outlet: “Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan will be a trilogy, with the first film focusing on Ram and Sita up until Sita’s abduction by Raavan. The second film in the trilogy will be a standalone on Hanuman led by Sunny Deol. This film will delve into it deeper with his connection to Vanwas and Sita’s abduction, followed by the third film based on the aftermath of Sita being abducted by Raavan. The film is currently being shot in parallel so that there are no long gaps between the releases of this trilogy.”
Reportedly, the shooting of the first part of the film is almost done.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Yash confirmed his involvement in the film and said, “It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me, ‘Would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Ravan is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it’s going to be a very unique approach to it.”
Yash is also co-producing this magnum opus film.
