Priyanka Chopra, by her own admission, is ‘Daddy’s Lil Girl’. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about how she was speeding up in her career and her father’s death gave her a reality check.
The global star was in conversation with fashion editor Tiffany Reid for the Marshalls Good Stuff Social event. The two women spoke about their careers and paving their way ahead while balancing family life and even finding time for some self-love. Priyanka was asked about how one can go about speedily up their career when they are young.
Priyanka shared that it’s not completely true as young people also have the pressure of how everyone around them expect them to have everything figured out. “It’s impossible to think that somebody’s just going to have it all figured out and that it requires you to bend and grow and then come on your own,” she added.
The actor shared that everything is fine as long as one is leading with good intentions, and you are not “walking over people or making somebody feel bad”. She added that then any “speed and the momentum” is okay.
Referring to her own experience, Priyanka Chopra said that it was her father’s illness and then death, that made her realise she needed to take a halt. She said, “I don’t remember how many of my mother’s birthdays I have forgotten or I might have missed. How many times I forgot to call her in my 20s? or how many times like I missed Diwali because I am working in Europe and they don’t have Diwali here so it’s fine. I just skipped and missed and didn’t think it was okay till I did. Till my dad died and I didn’t have another Diwali to be with him. When he got sick, it was a really big… I think that was a very momentous moment for me where I realised that life is short and we worry about so many trivial things when there are so many big things for us to worry about. I think focusing on that brings you to the ground.”
Priyanka Chopra’s father Ashok Chopra died in 2013 after a long battle with cancer. The actor is married to Nick Jonas, and the two have a daughter named Malti Marie. Recently, she opened up about how moving to America after politics and camps in Bollywood left her with not enough work.
Priyanka was recently in Mumbai to attend the Jio Mami Film Festival as she’s the chairperson of the association.
