Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murthy, rose to Kareena Kapoor’s defence as her husband, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, recalled an incident involving actor Kareena Kapoor. He said that he observed Kareena ignoring her fans on a flight one time, and he didn’t appreciate the behaviour.
During an interaction at IIT Kanpur earlier this year, the billionaire couple discussed why Kareena might have acted this way. While Narayana Murthy said that there can be no excuse, Sudha Murthy reasoned that Kareena might have been tired.
In a video that is doing the rounds online, Narayana Murthy said, “The other day, I was coming from London, and next to me, Kareena Kapoor was sitting. So many people came to her and said hello, and she didn’t even bother to react. I was a little bit surprised. Whosoever came to me, I stood up, we spoke for a minute or half-a-minute. That’s all that they were expecting.”
His wife interjected, “She must have a million admirers, she must have been tired.” As the crowd applauded her statement, he said, “That is not the issue.” Sudha Murthy added, “Murthy, a founder, a software person, will have maybe 10,000 (fans), but a film actor will have millions.”
Her husband continued, “That is not the issue. The issue is, when somebody shows affection, you can also show it back, in however cryptic a manner. I think that is very important. These are all ways to reduce your ego, that’s all.” But Sudha said that ‘it depends’.
Sudha Murthy has been making headlines in the last few days, after appearing on the very popular The Kapil Sharma Show. She spoke about being called ‘cattle-class’ on a flight one time, because she was dressed simply. She also said that airport staff refused to believe her when she said that she’s going to 10 Downing Street; her daughter is married to UK prime minister Rishi Sunak.
