‘It’s raining Grammys for India’: PM Modi congratulates winners, AR Rahman poses with Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan

PM Narendra Modi exuded good sportsmanship as he congratulated the Grammy winners from India, despite his song ‘Abundance in Millets’ losing at the famed awards. He took to X (Formerly Twitter) to share his heartfelt message congratulating the five winners–Rakesh Chaurasia, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, and Ganesh Rajagopalan–for making India proud.

The 66th Grammys was held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, and this year India won big with five musicians from the country winning eight awards. 

Modi wrote, “Congratulations @ZakirHtabla, @Rakeshflute, @Shankar_Live, @kanjeeraselva, and @violinganesh on your phenomenal success at the #GRAMMYs! Your exceptional talent and dedication to music have won hearts worldwide. India is proud! These achievements are a testament to the hard work you keep putting in. It will also inspire the new generation of artists to dream big and excel in music (sic).”

Two-time Grammy Award winner AR Rahman also rejoiced in the multiple wins by Indian musicians at the iconic awards this year. The actor shared a selfie with the winners Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, and Selavaganesh, and wrote, “It’s raining #GRAMMYs for India Congrats Grammy winners (sic).”

This year five Indian musicians have grabbed the Grammys. The iconic tabla player Zakir Hussain bagged as many as 3 awards this year. Rakesh Chaurasia and Zakir won the award for the song Bela Flecks. Zakir also received two more Grammys along with his Shakti band members Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, and Ganesh Rajagopalan for the Best Global Music Album.
