Just hours before music composer AR Rahman announced his separation from his wife, Saira Banu, ending their 29-year marriage, bassist Mohini Dey, a key member of Rahman’s troupe, also revealed her divorce from her husband, saxophonist Mark Hartsuch. The couple shared the news in a heartfelt joint statement on social media.

Their note on Instagram read: “Dear friends, family, fans, and followers, With a heavy heart, Mark and I announce that we have separated. First, as a commitment to our friends and family, this is a mutual understanding between us. While we remain great friends, we both have decided that we want different things in life and separation through mutual agreement was the best way to proceed.”

Despite their personal separation, the two emphasized their commitment to working together, “We will still be working on several projects together including MaMoGi and Mohini Dey groups. We have always prided ourselves on working well together and that will not be stopping any time soon :) The big thing we want to wish is love to everyone out there in the world.”

The couple also urged fans to respect their privacy and avoid passing judgments. “We appreciate your support in all of the ways you have given it to us. Please honor the decision we have made by being positive towards us at this time and respecting our privacy. We would appreciate no judgements. ❤️🙏🙌,” the statement concluded.

Mohini Dey has long been celebrated as a musical prodigy, starting her professional journey at the age of 11. Mentored by jazz maestro Louis Banks, she has become a significant figure in the music world. She is known for her work on projects such as Gaan Bangla’s Wind of Change and Coke Studio India. Over the years, she has extensively collaborated with AR Rahman and worked with legends like Zakir Hussain, Sivamani, Steve Vai, Marco Minnemann, and many other renowned musicians.

Meanwhile, AR Rahman announced his separation from Saira Banu in an emotional Twitter post shared at midnight. “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.” he wrote.
