Kangana Ranaut’s political drama Emergency release date: After several delays, Kangana Ranaut has officially announced the new release date for her highly anticipated film Emergency. The movie will now hit theaters on January 17, 2025. This announcement comes nearly a month after Kangana revealed that she had received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in October, following multiple delays and struggles to obtain the certification. The film was originally slated for release on September 6.
Kangana shared the new release date on Instagram, writing,, “17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny. #Emergency – Unveils Only in cinemas!”
In addition to starring as the lead role of Indira Gandhi’s biopic, Kangana has written, directed, and co-produced Emergency. The film focuses on the 21-month emergency period imposed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977, a critical moment in India’s history. Earlier, Kangana had alleged that the film’s clearance was delayed due to threats made against CBFC members. The film also found itself in controversy over its portrayal of Sikhs, with organizations like the Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) raising concerns about the content.
Initially scheduled for a November 2023 release, Emergency was first postponed to June 2024, then to September 6, before it faced further delays after not receiving the necessary CBFC certification. On October 17, Kangana announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the film had finally received its censor certificate. She wrote, “We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency, we will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support (Indian tricolour emoji).”
The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and the late actor Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.
