Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter has had a turbulent time at the box office in the past couple of weeks. According to industry tracking website Sacnilk, director Siddharth Anand film earned Rs 2.65 crore on Thursday, taking its total domestic earnings to Rs 187 crore. According to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, the film has grossed Rs 323 crore globally.
Fighter will face competition for the first time in its run starting today, with the release of Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. On Thursday, the aerial actioner saw 10.75 percent occupancy in Mumbai and 8.75 percent occupancy in the Delhi-NCR area.
Fighter is the third collaboration between Siddharth Anand and Hrithik Roshan, after Bang Bang! (2014) and War (2019). It is also the second collaboration between the filmmaker and Deepika; the two earlier collaborated on Pathaan (2023), which went on to earn Rs 1,050.30 crore globally. The lifetime collection of Bang Bang! was Rs 332.43 crore and War’s worldwide total was Rs 475.62.
Addressing the film’s underwhelming performance, the filmmaker had said in an interview with Galatta Plus, “Our expectations as makers have become a little unrealistic. I am talking about myself also, having delivered Pathaan just one year ago. We need to keep our expectations in check and align them with the product. Also, it was a working day. Thursday is considered mid-week. For instance, we held a special screening for friends and family on Thursday, and whoever we texted and asked, at least 40% of them asked, ‘Is the show in the evening?’ So, that time, it hit us how will people bunk work or bunk school and come in the morning.”
Fighter, released on January 24, is produced by Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures. Along with Hrithik and Deepika, the film also stars Anil Kapoor and Karan Singh Grover.
