Article 15 has received positive reviews. The Indian Express' Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, "There’s a lot that’s well done in Article 15, even though some of it is too on the nose, like a primer-explainer of ‘rural caste oppression and urban ignorance’. And at places, it feels scattered because there’s too much going on. I found a few strands unconvincing: Sayani Gupta’s Gaura, who plays the older sister of one of the missing girls, has a vivid presence, but is wrong for the part; Zeeshan Ayyub’s rebel Dalit leader’s comings-and-goings take away from the proceedings. The romantic thread between the cop and his activist lady-love (Talwar) is a filler, and the thriller-like chase to-find–the-missing-girl tone feels gratuitous."

Ayushmann Khurrana had earlier spoken about what drew him to Article 15, "With Article 15, I am doing a movie about a social cause for the first time. This has also been challenging for me. For a while, I had wanted to do a movie like this, but I was waiting for a good script or opportunity. I believe a piece of art should cause a positive stir. It’s my background in street theatre during my college days that draws me to social issues. I have travelled the length and breadth of the country with my plays and spoken to lots of people. So that exposure came early in my life."

"Anubhav Sinha’s latest directorial Article 15 gets a thumbs-up for reasons more than one. The film establishes Sinha’s position in Bollywood (after last year’s hit Mulk) as a filmmaker who prefers to pick relevant stories. While the film’s major share of accolades goes to Ayushmann Khurrana who plays a no non-sense and upright cop, Article 15 wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for its brilliant supporting cast."

"Saw #Article15 today. It’s the best film of this year! Thrilling, Suspenseful, Amazing cinematography and it raises critical issue of Casteism from multiple angles and layers. At least 5-6 different events in the film were directly inspired from real life incidents. Must watch," Dhruv Rathee said via Twitter.
