AR Rahman’s daughter, Khatija Rahman, has reacted to reports suggesting that the music composer might take a break from his career, after separating from his wife, Saira Banu. Recently, Khatija called out a social media user, shutting down the rumours. She took to her X (formerly known as Twitter) account and clarified that all such claims are ‘useless’, while re-sharing a user’s now-deleted tweet. “Please stop spreading such useless rumours,” she wrote in her post.
Here is the tweet:
AR Rahman and Saira Banu, who tied the knot in 1995, confirmed their separation in November this year. The couple issued a joint statement and revealed that they have decided to part ways. The couple shared the news on November 19. His post on X read, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter (sic).”
On November 19, Saira Banu’s lawyer Vandana Shah released an official statement about their decision to part ways. The statement read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr AR Rahman. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time.”
Earlier, AR Rahman’s other daughter, Rahima, also slammed people for spreading false rumours amidst their parents’ separation. Taking to her Instagram Stories, she wrote, “Always remember…Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” After the divorce announcement, the singer’s son Ameen also took to his Instagram handle and shared a brief note requesting privacy. He wrote, “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding.”
