Angad Bedi reveals ‘disturbed’ father Bishan Singh Bedi didn’t speak to him for 15 years because he cut his hair

Bishan Singh Bedi was so upset with his son Angad Bedi's decision to cut his hair that he didn't speak to him for over a decade.

A breakout film changed things for actor Angad Bedi even personally, as he recalled his late father, the legendary cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi, being “hurt” by his decision to cut his hair in his late teens. The elder Bedi came around to understanding Angad’s reasons after he saw him in the acclaimed movie Pink.

Angad, who has also starred in films such as the Salman Khan-starrer Tiger Zinda Hai, Alia Bhatt’s Dear Zindagi, and the Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, said that when he cut his hair, his father was so “disturbed” that they didn’t speak for many years. “He was hurt, not angry. Hurt is a deeper emotion than anger. I am a Bedi, a direct descendent of Guru Nanak. There are a lot of people who advised that I should grow my hair again. Maybe I will someday,” he said in the latest episode of Cyrus Broacha’s talk show, Cyrus Says.

The actor said that when he was starting out in the industry, he was categorically told that his long-haired look won’t work for the movies. So, the decision to cut his hair was purely professional, and it paid off with the Amitabh Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu starrer Pink.

Kya karta main? I thought if I have to go into it full throttle, I will do what it takes. Now, my father was upset for 20 years, till the time Pink released. After the film, he told me, ‘Son, now you justify your haircut to me.’ He hugged me after Pink. I remember I had cut my hair at 18-19, and Pink happened when I was 33. So, till that time he didn’t talk. He was really hurt, and that’s the time he hugged me and said, ‘You’ve chosen your path and you’re going to do well. So, carry on. But choose your films wisely after this,'” he added.

Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on October 23, last year, due to a prolonged illness. On the work front, Angad had a packed 2023, as he featured in projects like Hi Nanna, Ghoomer, Lust Stories 2.
