Actors Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh say their partners, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, are excited to watch their upcoming romantic comedy drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. The film, directed by Karan Johar, marks the second on-screen collaboration of Alia and Ranveer after Gully Boy.

During a recent media event of the film in the city, Alia and Ranveer were asked what the reactions of their partners to the movie’s trailer and songs were. Ranveer said Deepika is “really excited” to watch Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani and added that the Pathaan star keeps singing the film’s songs in the house.

“She loved the trailer, she understands what it means to me to be in a Karan Johar film as a lead. It is a big deal. He is one of the preeminent filmmakers of our country, so she knows it means a lot to me. She is excited for me and to see this performance. She keeps singing the songs around the house. I can’t wait for her to see it and know what she feels about it,” Ranveer said.

Alia, who got married to Ranbir last year, said the actor “loved the trailer” and added that he is a huge Pritam fan, who has composed music for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. Pritam and Ranbir have had a long-standing chartbuster collaboration, with hits like Barfi, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and this year’s Tu Jhooti Main Makkar.

“In general, he is a huge Pritam da fan, they have given their biggest hits together, Karan, Pritam da and Ranbir have given a fantastic album. So, when the songs were being made, I have been making Ranbir listen to the songs, much to Pritam da’s disapproval because he gets very protective about his songs and says, ‘This is not the final version don’t make people listen to it.’ But he was really involved in the musical journey because he has a very strong instinct for sound,” she said.

Alia said Ranbir gave his opinion the moment he heard the film’s songs–Tum Kya Mile, What Jhumka– and said how the tracks are good and will “really work”. “When I am working on a film, in my enthusiasm, I take him on the journey along with me, even when he has other things to do. I kind of drag him into it. He hasn’t seen the film yet, but he is going to see it, next week,” she added.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani is scheduled to release on July 28. It marks Karan Johar’s return to feature film direction, seven years after the Diwali release Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
