A faculty development programme for teachers at medical colleges will be introduced soon. Newly joined teachers will have to undergo this training to get confirmed in service while the old teachers will have to participate in the advanced course on medical education technologies to get promotions,Dr M Rajalakshmi,Director,Academics,Medical Council of India (MCI) told The Indian Express.
Rajalakshmi was present in the city to participate in the 35th annual conference of the research society of the B J Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital. The two day conference has several paper presentations including poster sessions,says Dr C B Mhaske,organising secretary.
The MCI is also celebrating its platinum jubilee year and has several plans to upgrade medical education,Rajalakshmi said. We have identified institutions to conduct the advanced course in medical education technology and one medical college each in Nagpur and Mumbai have been selected. We are updating the curriculum of post graduate course (Masters in Medicine and Masters in Surgery) and the focus is on competence.
The MCI also wants to focus on teachers and tell them how to use technologies on teaching students,assessing in an objective,structured,clinical and practical manner.
According to Dr Nirmala Borade,Dean,BJMC,the conference is an opportunity for students to showcase their research. Earlier,Dr K H Sancheti,orthopaedic surgeon spoke on osteoarthritis at the inaugural session while Dr S B Majumdar,educationist released the souvenir.
