Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis Wednesday laid the foundation stone for Lord Shri Venkateswara Temple at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai.
The temple is being designed as a replica of the famous Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh with an aim to provide a local place of worship for devotees of Lord Venkateshwara in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai.
CM Shinde, on the occasion, asserted that this ‘Bhumi Pujan’ ceremony brings joy to all and it is an auspicious day for all and a glorious day for the whole of Maharashtra.
“Not everyone can go to the state of Andhra Pradesh and visit Tirupati Balaji in person. Once this temple comes up, people can come here and take the blessings of Tirupati Balaji. All kinds of cooperation will be provided by the Maharashtra government to build this temple,” Shinde said on the occasion.
The state government has granted a 40,400-sqm plot at sector 12 in Ulwe to the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam (TTD) Limited for building the Venkateshwara temple.
The Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam Limited had earlier constructed temples in Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Jammu, New Delhi, Kurukshetra, and Rishikesh on the lines of the Venkateshwara temple at Tirupati.
In April last year, Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray offered prayers at the Tirumala Tirupati temple and handed over the documents pertaining to the land being donated to TTD for the construction of Venkateswara temple at Navi Mumbai.
The Shri Venkateswara Swami Vari Temple of Tirumala Tirupati Temple is coming up on a total area of 10 acres in Ulwe and the construction is likely to be completed within two years.
