A fire broke out in Sector V office of Cognizant,an IT firm,in Salt Lake on Tuesday morning. IT took nearly an hour for three fire engines to douse the flames. Two employees received minor burn injuries and were admitted to the Bidhan Nagar Hospital,officials of fire department said.
Since the fire broke out at 9.30 in the morning,half an hour before the reporting time of the employees,the office was not crowded.
The fire could not spread beyond the cafeteria,and we believe that it started from the kitchen when there was a gas leak, said Gopal Bhattacharya,Director,Fire and Emergency Services.
Officials of Cognizant,however,said that none of their employees were injured in the incident. While some employees were shifted to another office of the company,others were asked to wait outside till they received the clearance from the inspection team.
