The Students’ Council Elections 2025-26 of Panjab University–affiliated colleges in Chandigarh concluded on Wednesday. In the Panjab University Central Student Council elections held on the university campus, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) made a comeback to power after nearly five years.
Gaurav Veer Sohal of the ABVP was elected president with 3,148 votes, defeating his closest rival, Sumit Kumar, who secured 2,660 votes. Abhishek Dagar, also from the ABVP, won the general secretary post. While Ashmeet Singh, from the student group Sath, was elected vice-president, independent candidate Mohit Manderana stunned many by winning the joint secretary post with 3,138 votes.
At Post Graduate Government College (PGGC) in Sector 46, BCA student Pankaj was elected president, while BCom student Ravinder Singh secured the post of vice-president. Sneha, a BA student, was elected secretary, and Anjali, also a BA student, was elected joint secretary. The winners are from the alliance of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) of the Congress and the Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU).
At the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) of Panjab University, independent candidates Nipun, Maitreyee, Sidharth, and Harnoor were elected as the new department representatives. Nipun Suri had led a rally on the university premises, joined by both boys and girls in cars, showcasing strong student support and energy.
At Sri Guru Gobind Singh College in Sector 26, an alliance of the Khalsa College Students Union (KCSU) and the Gandhi Group Student Union (GGSU) registered a resounding victory—its third consecutive win there. The winners are Sarabjeet (president), Rohit (vice-president), Zahid (general secretary), and Tanishpreet (joint secretary).
At DAV College in Sector 10, an alliance of the JJP’s Indian National Students’ Organisation (INSO), the Students’ Organisation of India (SOI), the Students Organisation of Panjab University, and the Himalayan Students’ Union (HIMSU) won most seats. Harmehak Singh has been elected president, while Aaryan Rana is the vice-president. The alliance’s Anmol Randhawa is the new general secretary and Gurshaan Singh Chadha the joint secretary.
