A diarrhea outbreak in Nabha village, Zirakpur, has prompted swift action by the district administration and health department to contain the situation and ensure residents’ safety.
The suspected source of contamination was traced to a leakage in the water supply pipeline, which has now been repaired. Around 300 household connections are being thoroughly inspected. To provide safe drinking water, eight water tankers have been deployed, collectively making approximately 40 supply rounds in the affected area.
The health department has established medical camps, conducted house-to-house surveys, and distributed chlorine tablets with usage instructions. ORS pouches have also been provided to families to prevent dehydration.
Dr Harman Brar, epidemiologist (water-borne diseases), said the outbreak is under control, with only six–seven mild cases reported on Sunday. Medical teams remain on alert and are monitoring the situation.
Speaking on the measures taken, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said, “Residents must not use tap water until the test results of collected samples are cleared. Samples have been taken from the source water as well as individual connections. For a long-term solution, a new pipeline is being laid and will become operational within the next two weeks. The SDM of Derabassi has also visited the affected areas to ensure all actions are being implemented as per protocol.”
The district administration has appealed to residents to remain vigilant, follow the health advisory, and cooperate with field teams until further notice.
