The Karnataka government is projected to generate an additional Rs 3,107 crore over the next nine months due to a recent increase in sales tax on petrol and diesel, as announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The sales tax was increased from 25.92% to 29.84% for petrol and from 14.34% to 18.44% for diesel, resulting in petrol prices rising to Rs 102.88 per litre and diesel to Rs 88.96 per litre.
Siddaramaiah highlighted that fuel prices in Karnataka are lower than in neighboring states, with petrol costing Rs 102.84 in Hosur (Tamil Nadu), Rs 106.66 in Kasargod (Kerala), Rs 109.44 in Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), Rs 107.40 in Hyderabad (Telangana), and Rs 104.46 in Kagal (Maharashtra). Diesel prices also vary across these states.
