ABOUT The Boys

Last Updated : 27 Feb 2025
Amazon Prime Video's The Boys, a satirical superhero drama, follows a vigilante team battling corrupt "Supes" - individuals with superpowers - employed by the powerful Vought International. Based on the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic book, the series features a large ensemble cast including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Antony Starr. Initially conceived as a film trilogy, development began in 2008 but faced setbacks before being revived as a television series in 2016 by Cinemax, with Eric Kripke as showrunner. Amazon Studios acquired the series in 2017. Premiering in July 2019, The Boys has completed four seasons, with a fifth and final season slated for 2026. The show's success has spawned a shared universe, including the spin-off Seven on 7, the animated series Diabolical, and the live-action series Gen V. Critical acclaim is evident in its multiple nominations for prestigious awards, including the Primetime Emmy Awards and wins at the Critics' Choice Super Awards and Astra TV Awards. The series' dark humor and sharp commentary on celebrity culture and corporate power have resonated strongly with audiences.
