Talk about Cannes red carpet fashion and the first thing that comes to mind are beautifully crafted gowns and stunning jewellery by major European design houses. It's not common to talk about Indian designers and their gorgeous creations that have our Bollywood divas sashaying amid the global glitterati, with their designs reflecting Indian traditions and culture in the lines and cuts, as well as the emebellishments. As 69th edition of the Cannes Film Festival goes under way, let's walk down memory lane and take a look at the Bollywood celebs who chose Indianwear for the French red carpet.
Cannes 2013: Sonam Kapoor decided to go traditional at the screening of The Great Gatsby. She opted for a lace sari by Anamika Khanna and an embroidered jacket. What stood out in this look of hers was the pearl nathni which she pulled off well. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2002: Aishwarya has had a hit-and-miss relationship with fashion at the Cannes red carpet. For her debut Cannes appearance in 2002 the actor wore a golden Neeta Lulla sari with heavy gold jewellery. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2013: At Young And Beautiful premiere, Vidya Balan wore her nude Sabyasachi sari with jewellery by Pankaj Surana. What caught everyone's attention was her jadau nathni. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2014: A day after wowing everyone with her elegant vintage look in a black Elie Saab at the 67th Cannes Film Festival, Sonam Kapoor turned a desi belle in a pale pink Anamika Khanna couture net sari dress. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2013: Aishwarya opted for a gold Tarun Tahliani sari for one of her red carpet appearances. We think the actor went a little overboard with gold. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2013: Aishwarya wore a Abu Jani Sandeep-Khosla floor-length anarkali with colourful embroidery for the premiere of Blood Ties. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2013: Vidya is seen in a sea green organza sari with a cream blouse and pearls. No doubt Vidya looks very graceful but the pearls and the broad border makes her look much older. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2013: Sonam Kapoor chose an Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla sari. The actor paired it with a blouse with a plunging neckline. Verdict: Hit.

Cannes 2010: Here, Aishwarya can be seen in a black and gold Sabyasachi sari. Too flashy we say! She could have done better, no? Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2013: Yet again, Vidya Balan can be seen in a white-gold Sabyasachi sari and dark embellished blouse. We think she was trying to go for a regal look but it failed miserably. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2012: We don't know what she was thinking but Aishwarya shouldn't have picked up this Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla creation. It didn't flatter her features at all. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2011: There were a series of badly chosen outfits at the Cannes in 2011. Sonam Kapoor’s appearance in this polka dotted Masaba sari with a full-sleeve blouse is proof-enough. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2013: Vidya Balan earned quite a reputation for herself at the Cannes Film Festival 2013. Seen here in a beautiful Sabyasachi lehenga with broad black borders and a dupatta on her head, what people didn’t like about this look is how she carried the outfit. It was too overwhelming. Verdict: Fail.

Cannes 2013: Vidya Balan in this red Sabyasachi sari is the closest she has come to making it to the best dressed Bollywood celeb in Cannes. We should give her some credit where it's due. She looked good. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2010: Aishwarya picked a nude Sabyasachi sari for the premiere of her film Raavan at Cannes. Even though we loved the sari, the blouse was too simple for the red carpet event. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2013: We believe she could have done better, nevertheless, Vidya Balan looked pretty in this copper Sabyasachi sari. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2013: Ameesha Patel chose a Manish Malhotra lehenga at the screening of All Is Lost. We think, the actor couldn't carry off the look well. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2013: Vidya Balan chose a maroon lehenga and full-sleeved choli for her red carpet appearance. The actor finished out her look with a black bindi, neatly tied bun and jhumkas. Verdict: Fail. The look was too heavy for us to handle.

Cannes 2013: Puja Gupta opted for a black and gold jacket by designer Rahul Mishra for the red carpet event. She paired it with a pair of black pants. Verdict: Hit.
Cannes 2004: This revealing Neeta Lulla gown at the Cannes red carpet is Aishwarya's most criticised outfit till date. She wore her gown with Chopard jewellery. Verdict: Fail.
Cannes 2013: Shortcut Romeo actor Puja Gupta opted for a Gauri and Nainika creation for her red carpet appearance. We think, she could have done better. Verdict: Fail.
