As former England cricket team captain Michael Vaughan celebrated his 49th birthday on Sunday, ex-India cricket team member Wasim Jaffer wished him in his usual witty style. Jaffer shared a photo of a chocolate cake as he wrote, “Happy b’day to the man who loves to eat his own words.”
On the cake, Jaffer pasted a 2022 post by Vaughan in which had said, “England are the best white ball team in the world. They have an incredible group of players, thoroughly deserve to now hold both white ball WCs.. In Ben stokes, they have a player who just knows how to win the big moments.. Great teams need Great individuals.. England have plenty.”
Replying to Jaffer’s tweet with a tongue-in-cheek remark, Vaughan said, “I don’t like chocolate cake Wasim.”
Vaughan had posted about his team on November 14, 2022, a day after England beat Pakistan by five wickets to win the ICC T20 World Cup. The win made them the holders of both World Cup trophies. However, in 2023, the England team is going through a disastrous campaign as they have lost five matches out of six, even losing to Afghanistan.
On Sunday, India beat England by 100 runs as England failed to chase a target of 230.
Spectators during the India-England match in Lucknow carried a banner that read, “Happy Birthday Vaughan. Today Seats are Full but England’s hand will be empty.”
Vaughan reacted to the video with tongue-face emoticons.
On September 26, Vaughan had again predicted that the England team would make the World Cup semifinals.
