Dana Marie, an American living in Bengaluru, has gone viral for her hilarious take on the city’s “wintry” weather. In a light-hearted Instagram Reel which she shared on her account, ‘danamarieplus3,’ that has crossed over a million views, she can be seen bundled up in several layers, dramatically shivering at 13°C, and wondering, “How did I survive a childhood in Michigan?”

In her caption, she played up the joke even more, writing: “It’s 13 degrees Celsius (about 55F)… How did I survive a childhood in Michigan?” while poking fun at the exaggerated reactions she often sees on local weather posts.

In the clip, Dana reads out some of the comments she came across online – from “Bangalore feels like London right now” to “The weather in Bengaluru is no longer Bengaluruing.” She also adds her own twist, saying, “If you go out on a scooter right now, you will freeze,” followed by reactions such as “Bro I think it might start snowing” and “Forgotten what the sun feels like on my skin.”

The video clearly struck a chord. Many longtime residents said her jokes brought back nostalgia for Bengaluru’s colder winters from the late ’90s and early 2000s. One person wrote, “That’s how Bangalore weather used to be every winter until the early 2000s. We had to go to school every day in that cold.” Another pointed out how gloomy days make the chill feel harsher than the temperature suggests: “Without sunshine, even with a higher temperature mind feels cold and unhappy and sick.”

Others admitted they related a little too much, especially those living in homes without heating. As one user put it, “13 degrees in houses without heating hits different… You are totally justified in wearing those 4 layers.” Another reminisced, “This exactly how Bangalore was while I was growing up. Had a sweater, umbrella, just in case at all times.”
