US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti is the latest to be wowed by Indian food and a video of him trying different Maharashtrian dishes in New Delhi has gone viral.

Garcetti took to Twitter to share his experience of tasting various dishes at Maharashtra Sadan. He was accompanied by three of his colleagues from Maharashtra. The first thing he tried was the kokum sherbet. Next, he tried the famous Marathi snack vada pav, which he said is like a “Mumbai slider”. Then, the US ambassador tried bharli vangi (stuffed brinjal) with a chapati. He then dug into saoji mutton curry, which he was told is a hidden recipe from Nagpur. Tasting some aamras, Garcetti said “it is like being able to have dessert in the middle of your meal”.

Garcetti said the meal was incredible and he loved the saoji mutton the most. “From the bustling streets of LA to the colorful lanes of Delhi, my love of great food continues. I’m at Maharashtra Bhawan, eager to explore the fascinating flavors of India. Join me on this journey as I sample the essence of India, one state at a time. Where should I go next?” he captioned the video.

“Do try Misal Paav when you come to Maharashtra followed by authentic Maharashtrian style fish curry, fish fry, sukka chicken, varan bhaat. Other Maharashtra specialities are Pithla Bhakri and Paav Bhaji,” commented a user. “Try heading to Bikaner House next. The restaurant there (called Chor Bizarre) serves a lovely Kashmiri tarami (tasting menu of sorts) among other things. Also, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Punjab, Bihar & West Bengal have some incredible food to offer,” said another.
