A video of a cab fare disagreement is making waves on social media. Though the full details are still unclear, it shows a woman refusing to pay Rs 300 to her Uber driver, seemingly blaming him for the delay. Many online users, however, argued that traffic jams are not something the driver can control.

In the clip, recorded by the driver, tensions quickly rise. The driver tells the woman, “Badtameezi aapne ki hai (You have been rude),” to which she replies, “Mai Uber se baat karungi (I will talk to Uber).”

The driver fires back in Hindi, saying, “Don’t talk to Uber, you are running away with my money. You were late… just 2 minutes in traffic. It’s not my fault. You are running away with my Rs 300″.

At one point, the woman claims that the delay was intentional, as he was fighting with the bus guy, too. The driver, growing more exasperated, responds, “You people don’t even have the capacity to pay Rs 300, how will you ride cars?” and goes on to curse her that “if she didn’t suffer a loss of Rs 3 lakh, then my name is not Ram.”

Despite his insistence, the woman walks away into a building without paying. The video features overlay text such as “Is it the driver’s fault if there’s traffic?” and “Didn’t pay the driver Rs 300”.

Social media users were quick to react, largely criticizing the woman’s behaviour and questioning how someone with an expensive phone could refuse to pay a modest fare. A user wrote, “The taxi driver should get an FIR registered against the woman with the police, so that she also realizes that not paying the fare of a poor auto driver also falls under the category of a crime.”

Another user wrote, “It’s wrong what happened with the taxi driver, but we’ve faced similar situations where we asked him to wait fr just 2 minutes n he charged us 100 extra. It was Ola. Since we had no option, we had to pay. The drivers are no less; they cancel without informing. UPI isn’t accepted.”

A third person added, “This is modern higher middle class!! Earlier, due to the lack of resources they were mellow. Now the asli sanskar (aukat) is flaunted!.. I wonder if she is able to talk in the same way to her maidservants!”
