Momos are perhaps one of the most loved snacks in India. While street vendors use a variety of tactics to lure customers at their stalls, now a momo seller is gaining attention for his fluent English.
In a video, the unnamed seller, who is said to be a former English professor, invites people to try out his homemade “hygienically prepared momos”. The momos are served with badam chutney and Schezwan sauce.
A video of this unlikely momo seller was posted online by food vlogger Darpan Khurana (@lifewithdarpan). As per Khurana, one can find them at the ‘Mad about momos’ stall at Lucknow’s famed Chatori Gali. A plate of 10 vegetarian momos is priced at Rs 100.
This video, which has over six lakh likes, has prompted a discussion about employment opportunities and entrepreneurship in India.
Commenting on the video, an Instagram user wrote, “Imagine how many years a person spend researching and studying to qualify as a professor and spending so much and still the goverment fails to give jobs and good enough salary him ending up selling momos on the streets.”
Expressing a different sentiment, another person wrote, “Lmao people think this is a downgrade. If his stall runs even slightly above average he will make more money than being a teacher. :)”.
In the comments, a few people claimed that the momo seller shown in the video once taught them English. An Instagram user wrote, “He was my English teacher in my school days😢”.
Interestingly another Instagram user claimed that the man was not a professor and wrote, “I would like say something to the person who posted this firstly he is not the professor he is normal human n husband helping his wife they both both are doing good to give good education for daughter stop doing negative comments I have met this person before the opening me n my family met him by chance while we were enjoying our Sunday evening”.
