There are many facets to life in Bengaluru, known as the Silicon Valley of India. The city is known for its startup culture but often people share their grievances of living in the IT hub. From demanding landlords to how autorickshaw drivers overcharge, people raise such issues on social media.
Prashant Yadav, a senior frontend engineer at Razorpay, shared one such incident on Twitter a few days ago. Yadav said he deboarded at Bangalore City railway station and booked an autorickshaw using the Ola app. The autorickshaw driver called him but cancelled the ride in front of him. Yadav claimed the driver asked him to pay Rs 100 more than the fare that was showing on the app if he wanted to board the auto. It made him wonder how the middle class survives in the city.
“Got down at Banglore City station -> booked an Ola auto -> auto walla called me near him -> cancelled the auto and said sir 100 extra do what you see in Ola fir jaunga. I wonder how middle class survive in the city as they consider every one wealthy techie,” he wrote.
“I cancel it out right and report to the ola or uber and book another,” commented a user. “I see Bangalore is worst in this kind of thing, Never faced anything like this in NCR,” said another. “Been facing similar situations a lot lately,” another user shared. “Welcome to BLR! You will get used to the rejections (cab/auto/residence etc),” another netizen expressed.
Recently, another man had shared a similar experience of being overcharged for an autorickshaw ride in Bengaluru. He said he was charged Rs 100 for an autorickshaw ride of only 500 m. Mandar Natekar, who is the co-founder and CEO of Neural Garage according to his Twitter bio, posted a photo of the auto meter and said it was the “most ornamental thing in Bengaluru”. He claimed that in Mumbai, Rs 100 is the fare for approximately 9 km.
