A massive traffic congestion choked the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway (NH 48) in Gurgaon on Monday, following incessant rainfall that triggered widespread waterlogging across the district.
A viral video showing hundreds of stranded vehicles on the expressway sparked public outrage. Between 3 pm and 7 pm, several parts of Gurgaon recorded over 100 mm of rain, with Wazirabad tehsil logging a staggering 116 mm between 8 am and 6 pm.
Sharing the video, an X user, Nitesh Sharma, wrote, “To the government and elected officials, Please take responsibility for the complete breakdown in #Gurugram #Gurgaon caused by the rains. This level of destruction is utterly unacceptable. We deserve better returns for the substantial tax money we contribute. This is truly disgraceful.”

In another video, a rickshaw puller can be seen carrying a few people on his cart and wading through the water. “This is Sushant Lok 1 one of the most premium areas on mg road #Gurgaon #Gurugram. The palatial houses costing crores have their own private back waters to sail through in #GurgaonRains. @MunCorpGurugram @cmohry #gurugramrain,” X user Sumedha Sharma wrote.
Meanwhile, Vikas Arora, Police Commissioner, Gurgaon, and Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), reached the highway to manage the congestion, along with Rajesh Mohan, DCP (Traffic). DCPs were also deputed in several other stretches.
The Gurugram Municipal Corporation and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GDMA) said the cleaning of drains and gullies is underway in many areas. “GMDA team is monitoring on-ground conditions; pump sets & manpower deployed to support swift discharge of storm water. Citizens can submit their waterlogging grievances on helpline number 1800-180-1817 & WhatsApp number 7840001817,” the GMDA’s post on X read.
