An Airbnb host was shocked to see guests leaving their property in a complete mess. Sharing a before-and-after video on Instagram––which has now gone viral––showing the filthy state the guests left the property in, the host wrote in the caption that while they don’t expect things to be left untouched, the mess left behind by the guests was hard to justify. “We can at least be a little thoughtful,” they wrote.
The video shows dirty dishes, a grimy kitchen counter, and uncleaned induction cooktops. The video then transitions to the spotless condition the host had handed the place over.
The host, from their Instagram account named “The Golden Perch,” wrote in the caption, “Enough with paradise, after two years of hosting, we finally got some trouble our way.” They went on to express how disheartening it was to put in so much effort, only to have it destroyed. “When you put in efforts and someone destroys it, something dies in you. But we need to get back up again and focus on making things better,” they wrote.
The Airbnb owner also shared how challenging it can be to run a rental business. “Running an Airbnb is not so easy on the heart,” they wrote.
When confronted, the guests responded saying the host shouldn’t have allowed the booking knowing they had infants travelling with them. The host revealed it took an entire day to clean up, as the property smelled unpleasant from food left out and had ants all over the rooms due to crumbs scattered everywhere.

The video has garnered over a million views on Instagram already. But it has left users divided. One user wrote, “If you can’t provide the service, don’t continue the Airbnb, sell the property, you are the reason for property value hike.”
Another user said, “So you suggest that the guest should clean the kitchen and the utensils and also, is there any damage done to your Furniture? I’m not taking their side. It is just that everybody has to be a sensible traveller, but don’t make such content just to make it viral.”
A third individual wrote, “I think the Indians in the comment section do not understand the concept of an airbnb. The mess is vile. You can easily use a garbage bag to dispose off half the things on the counter. It’s about being mindful and respectful, which majority of Indians lack.”
A fourth person commented, “The comment section shows how Indian tourists don’t have a basic sense and don’t at all understand the concept of an Airbnb. Very sad to see people be so entitled because they paid money to book the place.”
