Renowned singer, songwriter and academic Dr Sahana Bajpaie, who teaches Bengali language and literature at SOAS, University of London, shared a video showing one of her students singing Amar Praner Manush Aache Prane, a famous song by Rabindranath Tagore. Songs written and composed by Tagore are called Rabindra Sangeet or Tagore’s songs.
Bajpaie captioned the video, “Rabindrasangeet by my student the lovely Lila Shaw-Mitchell at the Celebration of the Rights of the River Cam, Cambridge UK. So proud of you, Lila!”
The video has gone viral with over 38,000 likes and over five lakh views on Instagram.

Social media users, awestruck by Michell’s voice, expressed their pride in seeing a Bengali song being performed at the University of Cambridge.

Bengali actor Abir Chatterjee also commented on the video with heart eyed emojis.
Bajpaie, who spent her early days in Santiniketan in West Bengal, moved to Bangladesh’s Dhaka for almost a decade, and now lives in London. She has a PhD in music (Rabindra Sangeet).
