A video captured by an indoor monitoring camera, showing a pet dog starting a house fire after chewing a portable lithium-ion battery power bank, has emerged on social media. The incident happened in May in Oklahoma in the United States of America, the BBC reported.
The viral video shows two dogs and a cat resting in the living area. One of the dogs nabs a lithium-ion power bank and begins chewing the device while resting on a dog bed. In a few seconds, the battery explodes, and the mattress catches fire. As the video progresses, the confused pets keep looking at it and later escapes.
Sharing the video, X user Collin Rugg wrote, “Dog starts a house fire in Tulsa, Oklahoma after chewing through a portable lithium-ion battery. The Tulsa Fire Department released the following video to warn people about the “dangers of lithium-ion batteries.”

With over 18 million views, the video amassed many reactions. One X user commented, “I love that the cat is like screw this I’m out, meanwhile the dogs come to watch the fire.” Another user wrote, “Wow. Glad there was a doggy door. Hope the house didn’t suffer much damage.”
“I love how the dogs look like little kids deciding if it is time to run away,” a third user said. “I’m glad the animals were able to escape unharmed. Lithium batteries have some issues that need fixing!” another user wrote.
After the incident, the Tulsa Fire Department issued a safety warning to pet owners about the dangers of lithium-ion batteries and the importance of storing them out of reach of children and pets.
