The Paris 2024 Olympics kicked off with a unique Opening Ceremony on the Seine River on July 26, featuring India’s contingent with PV Sindhu and Sharath Kamal carrying the tri-colour flag.
While JioCinema streamed the event live in India, the broadcast abruptly cut to ads as viewers awaited the Indian team’s appearance. This disruption angered fans, who took to social media to criticise Jio Cinema.
One user said, “@JioCinema Ads in the middle of the opening ceremony of @Paris2024 Olympics?! Seriously! “
Meanwhile, another user mentioned, “Wtf @JioCinema ! Series of ads right when Indian Contingent showed up! Is it just me? So annoying! Heck ffs I ain’t watching after this -_- #Olympics #OlympicGames #Paris2024 #India”
Take a look below:
“So @JioCinema starts showing an ad EXACTLY the moment the Indian parade was about to be shown. We all completely missed it! And who shows ads on a live ceremony?,” shared another X user.
A fourth X user, disappointedly, wrote, “Can’t believe @JioCinema would flood the LIVE @Olympics Opening ceremony with ads even on a premium account.”
The official handle of All India Sports also shared a post saying, “First glimpse of the Indian contingent from the Opening ceremony and there comes the advertisement on JioCinema! Really?”
“@JioCinema @Sports18 Shame on you guys.. showing ads on India’s marching is disrespectful and disgraceful…this is unforgivable..enjoy your little sponsorship money by ruining our moment.. corporations like you are the reason india is lacking behind in sports #ShameOnYou #jio,” said one user.
To this, a social media user replied, “Worst broadcasting.” A second user expressed, “Tbh shocked why are they even showing it.” And another user mentioned, “missed the beautiful boat of Bhutan as well. why would you show ads in between the main ceremony!!.”
