A Miami-bound Scandinavian Airlines flight faced terrifying turbulence that sent passengers flying from their seats. The bone-chilling video shows passengers screaming their lungs out the moment the plane started shaking violently.

The viral clip also captures food items and luggage falling off the overhead storage, and a woman’s feet touching the ceiling of the plane. According to the New York Post, the flight—which was flying from Stockholm to Miami— had to make an emergency landing in Europe after the severe turbulence over Greenland.

Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “A video from #SK957 cabin as extreme turbulence hit a SAS A330 over Greenland, throwing unbuckled passengers into the ceiling. This incident highlights how turbulence can occur without warning, making seat belts essential for passenger safety.”

With 254 passengers onboard, the flight took off from Stockholm around 12:55 PM, reports said. According to a Scandinavian Airlines spokesperson, as per the New York Post report, no serious injuries were reported during the incident. Passengers were accommodated in a hotel overnight and were booked on other flights a day later.

In May, one person died and some injuries were reported after a Singapore Airlines flight operating from London to Singapore encountered “severe turbulence” mid-air. According to Reuters, around 30 injuries were reported. The exact cause of death and the nature of the injuries were unclear.

Turbulence occurs when planes are caught up in disrupted airflow during the flight. Aircraft can shake in turbulence. While some of them can be mild, some can lead to severe injuries, especially if passengers aren’t using seat belts.
