Google lit up the digital sky with an animated Doodle celebrating the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Friday. This year, the City of Light shimmers with innovation and tradition, as the grand opening ceremony unfolds not in a stadium, but along the historic Seine in Paris.
On the doodle, animated characters as athletes drift down merrily on the Seine, capturing the moment. It’s a delightful dance of colours and motion, echoing the spirit of unity and excitement that defines the Olympic Games.

While the competition began two days before the opening ceremony, a grand parade of athletes from over 200 countries, followed by the iconic lighting of the Olympic cauldron, will be the highlight of the day.
Paris welcomes athletes to compete in 329 events across 32 sports disciplines, marking the 33rd edition of the Olympics. The Olympic Games, which will end on August 11, bring a fresh twist with the introduction of four new sports — breaking, skateboarding, surfing, and sports climbing, alongside the 28 traditional Olympic sports.
The Indian squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics is a force to be reckoned with, boasting 117 athletes — 70 men and 47 women — across 16 sports disciplines. They are set to battle it out in 69 events, aiming to bring home up to 95 medals. The team features five Olympic medalists Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, P V Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, and the men’s hockey team.
