Rebecca Baby, frontwoman of the French pop band Lulu Van Trapp, is being widely praised after taking a powerful stand against sexual harassment during a recent live performance. While performing at the Le Cri de la Goutte festival in Ain, France, she was reportedly groped by several men in the crowd as she moved into the audience mid-set.
Shaken but defiant, Baby returned to the stage, removed her top, and continued the show bare-chested — a striking protest against the objectification of women’s bodies.
The incident unfolded mid-set on Saturday. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Baby recounted the experience, explaining how she had been groped by multiple men while engaging with the audience. Rather than walking off stage, she addressed the crowd head-on, calling out the assault and declaring, “I’m faed with a choice. Either I stop the concert and everyone loses, especially me, or I continue. I’ll stay topless until it’s normal. Until your brains get used to it not being sexual.”
Festival organisers quickly responded with a public statement of support. “This behaviour is unacceptable,” read the post from Le Cri de la Goutte. “It is a total contradiction with the values of the Cri de la Goutte: respect, kindness, inclusion, safety for all.” They emphasised that the festival aims to be a space where everyone—artists, attendees, and staff—can experience music freely and safely, without fear of violence.
Lulu Van Trapp acknowledged the festival’s message and thanked them for their solidarity. In a comment, Baby requested footage of her speech and the incident: “If anyone on here has videos of the performance and especially of me speaking after the assault I would love them to me thank you very much! And thank you to the audience (-1 or 2 idiots) that was wonderful.”
Online, Baby’s response has resonated with many. “Congratulations to the singer, what strength. Sincerely hoping these guys are the ones who are ashamed,” wrote one commenter. Others asked if the assailants had been identified and whether legal action was being taken.
A third person commented, “Thank you for this post Support to the singer of @luluvantrapp and congratulations to her for giving her all on stage despite the aggression.”
