BeijingYhe video went viral on all social media platforms.

Terrifying footage of window cleaners swaying precariously from one of Beijing’s tallest buildings have gone viral on social media after an unexpected storm hit the Chinese capital recently.

The video showed around a dozen workers being tossed around on their ropes by the strong winds from the 51-storey skyscraper housing the CCTV (Chinese Central Television) headquarters. The incident took place on May 30.

The incident drew attention to the risks faced by high-altitude maintenance workers, especially during adverse weather conditions, with the BBC correspondent in China, Stephen McDonell, remarking on X, “Think yourself lucky you’re not a window cleaner on Beijing’s CCTV tower. Here they were dangling on ropes swinging through the air this afternoon after a flash storm hit.”

Shanghai Daily wrote on X, “High-altitude maintenance workers were seen swaying in the strong winds outside the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing’s Central Business District on Thursday. Hoping for their safety.”

On Instagram, one user commented, “That actually looks fun.” A second user said, “Initially I thought China came up with new technology.” And a third user wrote, “Looks fun and scary at the same time.”
