Social media has opened doors for people to make a name for themselves, also allowing them to earn a living. Drew Talbert, a US-based TikToker, is making waves as he revealed his annual earnings from a fictional restaurant: $1 million.
Talbert came up with the idea of Bistro Hudy, a made-up restaurant he created for his TikTok profile in 2020. According to NBC News, Talbert creates funny sketches and plays multiple characters involving customers and colleagues for the restaurant. His videos often feature the restaurant’s manager, Terry; a cook, Pickles; a hostess named Amber; and a bartender, Clint—all played by Talbert.
“We put ourselves in a financial situation we could have only dreamed of five years ago. We went from month to month, barely scraping by, to now be able to save for retirement,” NBC News quoted Talbert as saying.
Talbert, who earns “upper six-figures range annually”, also sells Bistro Huddy merchandise and collaborates with multiple brands. According to the NBC News report, while he worked at a restaurant for 22 years, Talbert also auditioned for acting and taught at a local improv-and-sketch comedy school. However, things changed for Talbert after his wife showed him sketch comedies on TikTok.
“Everyone’s looking for their niche. I was able to use my sketch comedy background that I’ve been working on for years. The writing, the acting, the characters—all these things kind of came together,” Talbert told NBC News.
Inspired by Talbert’s series, fans have created their own edits, imagined new storylines for the Bistro Huddy staff and even transformed the videos into animated cartoons. In addition, there is a Bistro Huddy Fandom wiki page with in-depth character biographies.
Talbert enjoys over a million followers on TikTok and has 7,77,000 Instagram followers.
