An Australian traveller, Duncan McNaught, recently caught the attention of social media after helping to rescue a cow that had fallen into a dry roadside drain in India. He shared the moment on Instagram, posting a short video showing the distressed animal struggling to get out.
In the clip, McNaught calmly addressed bystanders as he approached, saying, “No, he just fell in. We’re gonna rescue. Let’s go. Oh, the sacred cow in India is stranded. It’s okay, buddy.”
He initially tried to lift the cow by himself, later admitting that he wasn’t strong enough to do that. “She was heavy, 2 people should do the job,” McNaught wrote. Another man joined him, and together they managed to pull the cow out safely.
By the end of the video, McNaught playfully showed a small cut on his hand, saying he had “scrape[d] my finger up.” The video was posted with the caption: “Had to rescue the sacred cow.”
The video quickly went viral, with viewers praising his efforts. “Thank you for being kind to that innocent soul,” wrote a user. Another user commented, “Finally, a good cameraman who helps instead of filming.”
A third person commented, “Sacred or not, it doesn’t matter bro. You helped the animal that needed your help. May God bless u and ur family.” A fourth individual added, “Congratulations you Passed the Test of Kindness!”
Many hailed McNaught as a “true hero without a cape,” expressing admiration for his empathy and willingness to step in when an animal was in need.
