In a high-profile Oval Office appearance on August 6, 2025, Apple CEO Tim Cook presented US President Donald Trump with a one-of-a-kind gift: a striking glass disc crafted by iPhone glass maker Corning, mounted on a 24-karat gold base sourced from Utah. The elegant piece, which bears the Apple logo, Trump’s name, Cook’s signature, and the engraving “Made in USA – 2025,” was part of a symbolic gesture underscoring Apple’s deepening commitment to American manufacturing.
“This glass comes off the Corning line. It’s engraved for President Trump. It’s a unique unit of one,” said Cook, adding that it was designed by a former US Marine Corps corporal now working at Apple.
The moment, captured on video and widely circulated online, came just before Trump announced Apple’s latest investment pledge, an additional $100 billion toward US operations, pushing the tech giant’s total domestic investment to a staggering $600 billion over the next four years.
“This is a significant step toward the ultimate goal of ensuring that iPhones sold in America also are made in America,” Trump said, praising Apple’s growing commitment to onshore production. “Companies like Apple, they’re coming home. They’re all coming home.”.
The video went viral on social media platforms and netizens took no time to react to it. A user wrote, “It is really the only way you can deal with the current president – Gifts and Bribes.”
Another user commented, “He tries his best to escape from the tariffs for the Apple products.” A third person commented, “Hope Donald Trump is happy now with Apple and Tim Cook after this.”
A fourth individual wrote, “Gives me more of a reason to switch to android.”
While Apple’s investment could potentially help the company avoid future tariffs on imported devices, it still doesn’t meet Trump’s long-standing demand for Apple to move iPhone production stateside.
