Can you imagine waking up in the middle of a night to find an alligator inside your home? Well, it may sound like a nightmare but this is what happened with a couple in the US back in June.

Don and Jan Schultz, who had recently moved to Louisiana, were shocked to discover a five-foot-long alligator in their new home. It had reportedly sneaked through a dog door. The couple were woken up by their dog as it began growling at the threatening intruder.

In a video posted on YouTube, Don explained that their dog, named Panda, growled at 1.30 am. His wife tapped him while he was in bed and said she thought someone had entered their home.

Don grabbed a pistol and went to the hallway, where he was shocked by the sight. His foot was just inches away from the gator’s head. He called the sheriff’s office and three deputies showed up five minutes later.

The video shows a man putting a noose around the alligator’s snout and dragging it out of the house. The alligator did not go quietly and could be seen thrashing about.

The man thought that since it had been hot for the last couple of weeks, the alligator felt the cool air seeping out from around the dog door and followed it into the house. The video has received many comments on an Instagram page where it was posted.

“Dude is dragging a gator through the house—you’d think someone would hold the door open for him! Where’s y’all’s manners?” an Instagram user commented. “Why would you install a doggie door knowing you live in crock town,” said another. “The day I see an alligator in my house, I’m moving immediately,” wrote a third.
