Ever since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, they have taken several regressive steps, including banning girls from attending school. As girls in Afghanistan dream of going to school, video of a little girl’s conversation with her father who was jokingly telling her that school is only for boys is going viral.

The father is asking the girl why she is upset with him. The girl responded that you said you wouldn’t let me go to school. The man then said that I would only enrol your brother in school as only boys shall attend school, not girls.

The girl then said to her father that girls shall also attend school. “Fighting and destruction are two things that all men are good at,” she said. When her father asked what are the things that men have destroyed, she said, “Just go and see for yourself, from Kabul to Kandahar, how many places you have destroyed.”

She said women just stay at home and they haven’t destroyed anything. “Girls usually go to school, not women. However, women can go to school as well,” she added. On being asked what she would achieve if she went to school, she said she would become a doctor, an engineer or a teacher. She further added, “We have to rebuild our country.”

Instagram page The Afghan shared the girl’s video and wrote, “In this inspiring video, an Afghan father jokingly tells his daughter that school is only for boys. But this remarkable girl responds with intelligence and conviction, asserting that education is for everyone, regardless of gender. Her arguments are a poignant reminder that education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all Afghan girls. Sadly, it has been over a year since Afghan girls have been denied access to schools and universities. Education is a fundamental human right, and denying Afghan girls their right to learn hinders not only their personal growth but also the progress of the entire nation. This girl’s courage represents the collective voice of countless Afghan girls who yearn for equal educational opportunities.”

Shared Thursday, the video has amassed 2.47 lakh views. Netizens were inspired and heartbroken by the clip.

“When she said that let women rebuild this country, it was the best! Bravo to the father who is raising a brave, intelligent and fierce girl. He is saying all this to bring out her brave side. Breaks my heart to see so many dreams are being shattered in the eyes of young girls who want to be more than just sit at home and denied the basic right to education,” a user commented. “Bravo! You can tell her parents are wonderful thinkers! May Allah help them rebuild our beautiful country,” said another.
