The new Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, released on June 1 to rave reviews and got fans of the Marvel superhero excited all over the world. The film’s plot revolves around the concept of multiple verses with hundreds of iterations of the web-slinging superhero from Miles Morales, the protagonist, to Miguel O’Hara’s Spider-Man 2099 to India’s very own Pavitr Prabhakar.
To celebrate the film’s release, Sony Pictures Entertainment Malaysia organised an event where hundreds of people came dressed as Spider-Man to break a world record. The Guinness Book of World Records recognised the event as the largest gathering of people dressed as Spider-Man with 685 people. It was achieved at Selangor, Malaysia on June 3.
“Sony Pictures Entertainment Malaysia decided to attempt this record title to celebrate the release of a new Spider-Man movie: Across the Spider-Verse, which was released on 1 June, 2023,” the Guinness World Records website stated.
AEON Mall posted a video on Facebook showing the people who came dressed as Spider-Man. From children to teenagers and adults, it looked like a multiverse of Spider-Man as people came dressed as the webslinger. “Yes, Malaysia! WE DID IT!! Guinness World Record: Largest Gathering in Spider-Man Costume (685 PARTICIPANTS) Thank you, Malaysians. You are truly a Superhero!” it wrote.

Recently, the Mumbai police used a clip from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and pointed out that only two people should travel on two-wheelers. In India, three or four people are often seen ‘adjusting’ in a vehicle made for just two.
The Mumbai police shared a clip that showed Marvel comics villain Spot, talking to what appears to be a family of four commuting on one bike. Spot addresses the commuters and says, “That’s very dangerous”. While sharing this clip on Instagram, the Mumbai police wrote, “No matter which multi-verse you are in, safety is always the canon. #SlingingIntoSafety #AcrossTheRiderVerse #SafetyIsCannon”.
