A week after making a surprise return at this year’s SummerSlam, Roman Reigns on Sunday became the new Universal Champion at the WWE pay-per-view event WWE Payback.
The match started with the monsters- Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt, tearing each other apart as Reigns made a very late entry into the battle. With the ring broken and both the superstars lying on it, Roman made his way to the ring along with his new advocate Paul Heyman.
Signing a new contract he rushed inside the ring and did what he did in Summerslam, launch a brutal attack on both the superstars. After taking control over the proceedings, The Big Dog then hit Strowman with a spear and won the title.
Reigns did not sport his signature vest, but was seen wearing the “Wreck Everyone and Leave” t-shirt. The victory, which saw Reigns using nefarious means to win the title, has put the superstar’s reputation in a different graph, with many now considering him as WWE’s latest heel.
Meanwhile, son Dominik and Rey Mysterio pulled off a win against the team of Seth Rollins and Murphy. The Mysterios took advantage of a late miscommunication between Rollins and Murphy, which led to their win. However, many are also predicting that with this defeat the “Monday Night Messiah” can lose one of his disciples.
