The 14-year-old cricketing prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has been named the vice-captain of Bihar for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, set to begin from October 15. Suryavanshi will be the deputy of Sakibul Gani, as the Bihar Cricket Association on Sunday named the 15-member Bihar side for the first two matches against Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. Bihar will open their campaign against Arunachal in Patna before travelling to Naidad to face Manipur.
Bihar find themselves in the Plate group, where Meghalaya, Sikkim and Mizoram are the remaining sides apart from Arunachal and Manipur.
Suryavanshi has shown immense potential after making a Ranji debut for Bihar at the age of 12. Since then, he has represented the India U-19 team in an away series against England and Australia. He also became the youngest player and the youngest centurion in the Indian Premier League, playing for Rajasthan Royals. He racked up a ton in 35 deliveries, scoring the second-fastest century in IPL.
Just 14, Suryavanshi already has numerous records to his name; he recently became the youngest player to feature in the Indian Premier League, where he went on to score the second-fastest century in the league’s history while also becoming its youngest centurion.
Hailing from Samastipur, Suryavanshi has already made history with his extraordinary achievements. During the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, he debuted at just 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai, becoming the youngest player in the tournament’s history.
He also hammered the fastest Youth ODI hundred off just 52 balls, bettering the world record previously held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who scored a 53-ball century in 2019. In the same innings, he broke the Indian record for the most sixes in a single match (10).
At 13 years and 188 days, he became the youngest centurion in the 170-year history of competitive cricket. He also set the record for the fastest century by an Indian at the youth level with a 58-ball hundred against Australia in the 1st Youth Test in Chennai. This blistering 58-ball century stands as the second-fastest ever at this level, just behind England’s Moeen Ali, who achieved the feat in 56 balls.
