Pragyan Ojha, who was banned for bowling in all BCCI and ICC events due to a suspect bowling action, has been cleared by Chennai’s ICC-recognised centre. The left-arm spinner will be taking part for Hyderabad in their last Ranji Trophy league game against Himachal Pradesh to be played in Hyderabad.
“I gave my test last Friday and today I got my results which said that I can participate in all the tournaments conducted by BCCI and ICC. My action is within permissible limit. This news obviously has come as big relief for me,” Ojha told The Indian Express.
His action was in debate for quite a while now. So much so that many believe that Ojha’s exclusion from the Indian side was because his action was under the radar for quite sometime. Ojha was barred earlier this season from bowling in the domestic tournament after his left arm was found to straighten more than the permissible limit of 15 degrees at the point of release. It was the Hyderabad Cricket Association that asked Ojha to undergo bowling Test in Chennai.
“My association wanted me to undergo test and even MV Sridhar, director of cricket operations of BCCI, advised me to undergo the test. I said fine, lets go; I wanted to clear all doubts,” he said.
Ojha says he didn’t have to make too many changes to his action. “It didn’t have many faults. I rectified it by bringing momentum to my run-up. I was running diagonally earlier but now I’m coming in a bit straighter. This season might be over, but for me it has just started. There are plenty of games to come and am looking for all of them,” he added.
Ojha’s last match for India was Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test at Wankhede where he finished with a ten-wicket match haul. Since than he has not been picked.
“It was a difficult period. I really missed playing this game when I was out,” he said. “I want play Test cricket again.”
