IAS officer gets 5 yrs in jail in corruption case

The bureaucrat and others were accused of committing fraud in printing of forms and other stationery amounting to about Rs 34 lakh.

An IAS officer was sentenced to five years in jail by an anti-corruption court in Mandla,Madhya Pradesh,Friday for alleged financial irregularities that took place over a decade ago when she was in-charge of the district panchayat. Currently posted in Bhopal as deputy secretary,Shashi Karnawat was also fined Rs 50 lakh by special court judge Rajiv Karmahe who also convicted a district panchayat employee and two owners of a printing press.

The bureaucrat and others were accused of committing fraud in printing of forms and other stationery amounting to about Rs 34 lakh. Karnawat is also vice-president of the All India SC/ST Officers and Employees Association.
