An IAS officer was sentenced to five years in jail by an anti-corruption court in Mandla,Madhya Pradesh,Friday for alleged financial irregularities that took place over a decade ago when she was in-charge of the district panchayat. Currently posted in Bhopal as deputy secretary,Shashi Karnawat was also fined Rs 50 lakh by special court judge Rajiv Karmahe who also convicted a district panchayat employee and two owners of a printing press.
The bureaucrat and others were accused of committing fraud in printing of forms and other stationery amounting to about Rs 34 lakh. Karnawat is also vice-president of the All India SC/ST Officers and Employees Association.
